Web Guard

Learn about Parental Controls & Content Filtering with Web Guard.

What is Web Guard?

Web Guard is a free service that helps restrict adult web content from being seen by family members under 18, while a device is on the T-Mobile network with Web Guard turned on.

It filters at the network level, so there's nothing to install on the phone. You can set a different level for each line on your account. Web Guard isn't foolproof and isn't a substitute for monitoring your family's online activity.

Good to know:

  • Free for Metro customers
  • set per line
  • filters at the network level (nothing to install)
  • not available on every device and may not work in all locations
  • defaults to No restriction until you choose a level.

Turn Web Guard On/ Off

Anyone with access to your Metro account can set Web Guard for any line. Keep in mind that anyone you share your account login with can change it too.

In the myMetro app

  1. Open the myMetro app. Under Lines, tap the line you want to manage.
  2. On Line details, tap Manage this line.
  3. On Line settings, under Preferences, tap Web Guard.
  4. Choose High, Medium, Low, or No restriction. Tap What's restricted? to see what each level blocks.
  5. Tap Save.

On metrobyt-mobile.com

  1. Go to metrobyt-mobile.com, click My account (top right), then Log in.
  2. Click My account, then Profile.
  3. Select Personal information.
  4. Next to Web Guard, click Edit.
  5. Choose your level — High / Medium / Low / No restriction — and click Save.

Choose a filter level

Web Guard has four settings. Each higher level adds everything from the level below it. Web Guard defaults to No restriction. For a child's device, choose Low or higher.

No restriction

Filtering Off allows for an open and unfiltered browsing experience. This is the default for every line.

Low

Core Protection.  Turns filtering on at the foundation level.  This level blocks the following content:

  • Phishing Attacks
  • Malware
  • Commandand Control Callbacks
  • Web Spam
  • Proxy / Anonymizer
  • Potentially Harmful Domains
  • Adult themes
  • Nudity
  • Sexuality
  • Pornography
  • Tasteless
  • Child Abuse Content
  • Hacking
  • Hate/Discrimination
  • Illegal Downloads
  • Weapons
  • Drugs

Medium

Everything in Low, plus Safe Search enabled to automatically filter pornography and other offensive content built into search engines.

High

Our Strongetst level.  Everything in Low and Medium, plus Adware, Visual Search Engines, Classifieds, Blog, Games, Lingerie/Bikini; Information on Alcohol, Gambling, Illegal Activities, Terrorism, and Dating; Chat, Instant Messaging, Forums/Message Boards, Social Networking, Video Sharing, Photo Sharing, Webmail, File Storage, P2P / File Transfer.

What Web Guard doesn't block

Web Guard filters mobile-data web traffic — but it can't catch everything.

Not covered:

  • Browsing over Wi-Fi
  • Content inside device apps
  • Email, text messages & instant messaging
  • Some third-party web browsers

Compatibility notes:

  • Apple iCloud Private Relay must be turned off for Web Guard filtering to work. To use Private Relay, turn Web Guard off.
  • VPNs may bypass Web Guard filtering.
