SMS messaging stands for Short Message Service messaging which allows you to send short text messages to others from your mobile device. If you are unable to send or receive SMS from your Metro by T-Mobile device, there are several steps you can take to help resolve the issue. In account history, select __Usage History__. 5. Review your last months usage history. ## Check your usage ## Common SMS issues ### We want text messaging to remain a reliable and trusted form of communication: Before contacting us, check the following: 1. Make sure to restart your device. 2. Review your phone settings to turn off Wi-Fi and airplane mode. 3. If available, clear the messaging app data in your phone settings. 4. Make sure the number was entered correctly, including the country code when texting international numbers. 5. Verify you have not blocked the number in your phone settings. 6. Confirm with the recipient they have not blocked or silenced notifications on their end. 7. Verify you are in the Metro coverage area by using our [Coverage Map](https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/coverage.html "Network coverage map").   ## We want text messaging to remain a reliable and trusted form of communication: ## Wireless Emergency Alerts ### Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on the Metro by T-Mobile network. Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) is a public safety notification system that enables authorized agencies to send text-like messages to consumers with capable wireless devices to alert them of emergencies in their area. Alerts are geographically targeted, so only those in the threat area will receive the alert. There are four types of messages:  - National Alerts - Imminent Threats to Life and Property Alerts - AMBER Alerts - Public Safety Messages Authorized state and/or local government agencies may send test alerts to mirror actual alert conditions. These agencies are expected to include conspicuous language that make it clear that these messages are only tests and do not reflect actual emergencies. State and Local Test Alerts are disabled by default on all WEA-capable devices.
