An important message from Metro® by T-Mobile:

We want to let you know that our industry is experiencing device change and phone number port out scams that could impact you -- and we are requiring you to take additional security measures to protect your account if you haven’t done so already.

Fraudsters are attempting to compromise personal bank accounts by gaining access to your wireless account. They do this by guessing common security PINs, such as birthdates, sequential numbers (e.g., 12345678), or repetitive numbers (e.g., 11111111). Once a fraudster gains access to your wireless account, they can take over your line by either transferring your phone number from one wireless provider to another or by assigning your phone number to a new device which the fraudster controls. With control of your phone line, the fraudster can intercept personal banking information. It is important to change your security question answer to something specific to you, so fraudsters cannot easily guess the answer and gain access to your account security information.

To help protect against this, we are requiring you to change your account security PIN as well as your security question answer to a unique combination. It’s easy – you can create a new secure PIN and security question answer by logging into your My Account at https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/my-account/sign-in or by calling Customer Care at 1-888-863-8768.

If anyone attempts to port your number from Metro to another carrier, the new carrier should validate the request with your Metro PIN. Metro will verify your account security PIN before allowing changes to your account including to your device serial number and SIM card. You may also consider checking with your bank to see if there is an alternative to using text for PIN authentication, such as email.

Protect Against Phone Number Port Out & Device Change Scams

Why did I get this message?

The wireless industry is experiencing phone number port out and device change scams that could impact you, and we are requiring you to change your account security information if you haven’t done so already.

Why is this happening?

Fraudsters are attempting to compromise personal bank accounts by gaining access to your wireless account. They do this by guessing common security PINs, such as birthdates, sequential numbers (e.g., 12345678), or repetitive numbers (e.g., 11111111).

Once a fraudster gains access to your wireless account, they can either take over and transfer phone numbers from one wireless provider to another or change your device serial number and SIM card information on your account to take control of the phone line and thereby intercept personal banking information.

Was my account compromised?

If we have identified fraud on your account, we would have reached out to you. If you suspect your account has been compromised, you can call us at 1-888-8Metro8.

What do I need to do?

We encourage you to change your account security PIN to a unique combination and change your security question answer to something specific to you. You can create a new secure PIN and change your security question answer by logging into your My Account at https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/my-account/sign-in or by calling Customer Care at 1-888-863-8768. You may also consider checking with your bank to see if there is an alternative to using text for PIN authentication, such as email.

What if I do not reset my account PIN and security question?

Metro will reset both your account PIN and security question for you. If this happens, you will need to go through normal account recovery steps by visiting a store or calling customer care at 1-888-863-8768.

How does the new PIN and security question answer help protect my account?

Your new unique security PIN will help protect you from fraudsters gaining access to your wireless account which prevents them from transferring phone numbers from one wireless provider to another or changing your device serial number and SIM card information on your account to take control of the phone line and thereby intercepting personal banking information. The security question answer is used to recover your PIN so having an answer that cannot be easily obtained by fraudsters will help in the security of your account.

Does this new PIN replace the PIN I use to login to My Account on the Metro by T-Mobile website?

Yes, your new security PIN will update the PIN you use to access your My Account on the Metro by T-Mobile website.

Is there anything else I can do to help protect my account?

Make sure you always have strong passwords on any online or mobile account. You may also consider checking with your bank to see if there is an alternative to using text-for-PIN authentication, such as email.
