Wi-Fi Access in LAX Airport

  1. What is Metro by T-Mobile doing with Boingo / Passpoint technology at LAX?
  2. Metro by T-Mobile has partnered with Boingo to provide customers with additional options for connectivity at the LAX airport. Using Passpoint technology, customers with supported devices, will automatically connect to Boingo’s Wi-Fi network for use of data and Wi-Fi Calling if enabled.   3. What are the benefits of Passpoint and the Boingo network?
  4. Using Passpoint, Metro by T-Mobile customers with supported devices can experience a more seamless and secure connection to Wi-Fi to enable the use of wireless data and Wi-Fi Calling, and voice, text and picture message traffic over an encrypted connected. And with Wi-Fi Calling 2.0-capable devices, our customers can easily transition between a 4G LTE wireless signal and Wi-Fi.
     

  5. How do I check if my device supports this feature?
  6. First, for your phone to see the Boingo network, it must support Wi-Fi 802.11n at a minimum. Refer to your device’s start guide for specs. After that, check if it supports Passpoint. We’ve added Passpoint technology to most of our Metro by T-Mobile phones launched in the past 2 years. Here is how to check if your device supports Passpoint:
     

    Android: Go to your Wi-Fi Connection Settings > Advanced > Passpoint or Hotspot 2.0
     

    iOS: Passpoint support was included in iOS 9 and above. Ensure you are on the latest firmware available and have the most recent carrier bundle for best performance.
     

  7. When did Metro by T-Mobile enable this technology?
  8. Metro by T-Mobile' Passpoint technology started at LAX in Terminal 7 on August 9, 2017. Metro by T-Mobile and Boingo will expand this technology across all terminals at LAX starting November 13, 2017.
     

  9. What is Passpoint? 
  10. Passpoint is an industry-wide solution that streamlines access to Wi-Fi networks while delivering peace of mind by using WPA2 security. Passpoint automates that entire process, enabling a seamless connection between Boingo’s Passpoint enabled Wi-Fi network and selected Metro by T-Mobile devices.
     

  11. Who can access the Passpoint functionality?
  12. All active Metro by T-Mobile customer on any rate plan have access to this functionality.
     

  13. Why did I connect to the Wi-Fi network at the LAX airport?
  14. Metro by T-Mobile and Boingo have partnered to enhance customer's network experience at the LAX airport. Customer's phones will connect them to the premium Boingo Wi-Fi network and allow them to use free Wi-Fi data while they are in transit.
     

  15. Does this count towards my high-speed data bucket?
  16. Boingo Wi-Fi Hotspots, at the LAX airport, are free for all Metro by T-Mobile customers with a Passpoint-capable phone and do not count against high-speed data buckets.
     

  17. Will my calls and text/picture messages be secure while using Wi-Fi networks through Passpoint?
  18. Metro by T-Mobile fully encrypts all voice, text, and picture message traffic, providing similar security as when using the Metro by T-Mobile network.
     

  19. Will my browsing and app data sessions be secure when using Wi-Fi networks through Passpoint?
  20. Even with security in place, it is possible for bad actors to observe and capture data used in browsing or app use sessions. We recommend using only fully encrypted sites (HTTPS) or refraining from transmitting sensitive data to unfamiliar sites.
